How can you participate?
Theme: J'apprends le français parce
que.....
To submit a poster for judging, please turn it into your
French teacher by 11/10/09 to be delivered to Richard Montgomery High School, care of Madame Christian Nugent. The posters
will all be on display at the Festival on 11/21/09 at Richard Montgomery High School. Come and see them all!
The poetry recitation contest is open to all students, no matter what their
level. What is it? Students will memorize a poem in French (minimum 10 lines) and recite it in front of a jury on
Saturday, November 21, 2009 - at Richard Montgomery High School. If students choose to recite a portion of a longer poem,
that portion must make sense being recited "out of context".
Students will recite the poem they have memorized: a) showing understanding of what they are saying.
b)giving their interpretation of the poem.
It is not an acting contest, but students may dress to suggest something about the poem and carry a small prop.
Contestants
will be judged on: a) memorization b) fluency of language c) pronunciation d) interpretation
They
will be judged at 6 levels:
1) Immersion (K-2)
2) Immersion (3-5)
3) Immersion (6-8) 4) MS/HS Beginner (levels 1&2) 5) MS/HS Intermediate (level 3) 6) HSAdvanced
(levels 4 and above)
Some poems are generally very popular, e.g. Demain dès l'aube, or Le corbeau et le renard, and
therefore, if several students do the same poem, it becomes monotonous. Be courageous and explore lesser known poems!
